Hon. Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad Attends Launch of Qoolcaday Rangeland Development Project

Hargeisa, Somaliland

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro), today presided over the official inauguration of the Qoolcaday Rangeland Development Project in Salaxley district.

I, Hon. Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad, was honored to be among the participants at this historic event.

Community Collaboration Praised

In his remarks, President Cirro expressed profound gratitude to the traditional leaders, elders, intellectuals, and ministers from the region for their vital role in resolving the long-standing issue surrounding the Qoolcaday rangeland. He commended the Salaxley community for embracing dialogue and consensus, which paved the way for the rangeland’s formal transfer into government stewardship as a national reserve.

The President explained that the Ministry of Livestock will implement a structured management system for the reserve, modeled after the successful Aroori National Reserve.

Key Benefits of the Project

The Head of State outlined several major benefits of the Qoolcaday project for the local population and the wider nation:

  1. Production of nutrient-rich livestock fodder to sustain animal health.
  2. Establishment of veterinary health services within the reserve.
  3. Development of water infrastructure for both people and livestock, including dams and reservoirs.
  4. Job creation opportunities for residents.
  5. Restoration of natural grazing land and ecological balance.
  6. Establishment of a research and training hub, including a veterinary laboratory and facilities for fodder production and livestock breeding.

Assurance to the Community

President Cirro emphasized that the Qoolcaday rangeland will not be allocated to private investors or individuals. Instead, it will remain a national resource for the people of Qoolcaday and Somaliland as a whole, especially during drought seasons.
